Diet Doggy food… What is the best brand?

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I posted this question earlier but I would like some more answers….

I went to the vet yesterday to get 2 out of 3 of my boys yearly check up and shots. My vet told me my dachshund and my yorkie chi need to lose a couple of pounds. I am taking my lab on Friday and am expecting her to say the same thing. He does need to lose some weight.

Anyway, I want to know of a good weight loss diet food I can get in Canada. My vet is going to try and push Iams weight control on me, and I don't like Iams. I really like feeding my boys holistic or natural food, but not a raw diet.

Please don't scream at me for this…

But I have always just left the bowl with food in it. It holds about 6-8 cups and they all just take bit out during the day. I fill it every 2 - 3 days. My vet says I shouldn't do this, but I don't feel I have the right to tell them when they should and shouldn't be hungry. But at the same time, I do want to do what is best for my boys. I know dachshunds should not be over weight as it puts strain on their little backs. So, I am ready to do whatever it takes.

I want something that is okay for all of them, if possible.

Lucky is a 11 yr old golden
Miles is a 7 yr old dachshund
Joey is a 4 yr old Yorkie Chi

Any recommendations?
Jash - My weiner dog is only 7… he's not senior yet hun.

Luv - I assume I can get that brand at Pet Smart? I don't thibk we have Petco in Canada.
Nancy - Thank you. I know I need to start measuring. It is the right thing to do. It is just that I have tried this before and I don't feel like they eat enough. I guess that is why I am in this situation now… :) Pack Leader - TY VM! I am going to print out your notes and bring them with me when I go to PetSmart.

Diana - TY2! I had Lucky tested for thyroid issues. Apparently the levels must be between 8 and 35. Lucky was a 7.5. I didn't think medication was the answer.

All of the foods from Wal Mart and most well known dog foods have either fillers, by-products, or artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives.

Fillers such as corn, wheat, and soy have no nutritional value to them. It is all junk.

By-products are the junk in meats. That aren't nutritious plus dead, dying, and cancerous animals are allowed.

Artifiacial colors, flavors, and preservatives are cancer causing along with other health problems. Cancer is the number one killer of cats and dogs.

You don't want any food that is from Wal Mart or the like. All of the foods there have one or all of these things.

All the capitol words are the really bad things, there are also other bad things but I didn’t point them all out.

I wouldn't put them on diet food at all. First, try taking them for more walks. Most of the time overweight dogs just need a little bit more exercise. If they could stand to lose more weight even with walking try reducing their food a little bit; maybe they're eating a little too much. If that doesn't work then try a diet dog food.

best weight loss diet?

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

im trying to get fit again and getting back into a workout routine.

What types of food are good for initial weight loss? is a high protein diet beneficial?

Hi!

Have you ever heard about "Fat Loss 4 Idiots Diet"? Reading about it makes you wonder if they might not be on to something. The way the diet works is different than other fad diets that involve cutting out certain types of food like low carbohydrates, low fat or low calorie. Instead it uses calorie shifting foods that you would normally eat, increases the number of times you eat, and changes when you eat certain things for fast fat loss.

What is Calorie Shifting?

The way calorie shifting works involves tricking the fat hormones that are sent out by the brain. Every time you eat something, your brain sends out fat storing and fat burning hormones, depending on what the item is.

The idea is to send more fat burning than fat storing hormones, so that the body does not hold onto the fat for later use. If you keep confusing the metabolism, you will see fast fat loss, as much as 9 pounds in 11 days, that is the first weightloss principle of Fat Loss 4 Idiots Diet.

How Does The Metabolism Control Weightloss?

This scientific weight control fact about the metabolism and how it works stems from our ancestry as cavemen, when there were famine periods between hunts. The body would store and hold onto fat for survival. The metabolism has not evolved from this self-defense tactic and doesn't realize we can just run to the grocery store and get whatever we want.

On restrictive diets, weightloss can plateau when the metabolism thinks it is experiencing a famine period, and it will only burn what is taken in. Even on some of the popular low carbohydrate diets, it is advised to eat pizza for two days when your weight plateaus to get the metabolism going.

Why Do Some Weightloss Diets Leave You With No Energy?

The only problem with many of these restrictive weightloss diets is the metabolism goes back to only burning what you take in and many people complain about being tired and worn down, when it is mainly the metabolism storing up the energy for later.

By eating healthy, nutritious foods that are fat burning, the metabolism burns as much energy as you need. Many people on restrictive weightloss diets will regain the weight when they go back to eating normal foods.

What Is The Best Diet For Weightloss?

The best weight control diet allows you to eat the foods that you would normally eat, have in your refrigerator and cabinets. By timing when you eat certain foods, how many times a day you eat them, and balancing the types of food, your metabolism will burn what you take in and then some, because it knows you will be feeding it again shortly, instead of starving.

Prepackaged fat loss products and frozen dinners are not something you can live on the rest of your live. You need to understand the basics of natural weight control, and Fat Loss 4 Idiots Diet uses the fundamental principles of controlling the metabolism with calorie shifting normal foods you eat every day.

Check my source, it might help. It's a diet that works. Good luck!

What foods are best for weight loss?

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

I know obviously sweets and chocolate and crisps are bad for you etc but i mean meal wise?
I'm 16 and i make pretty much all my meals so what are the best?
I'm a big fan of pasta, is that bad for me?
Has anyone got any recipes that are healthy and contain lots of nutritious things? Thanks

Yes sweets and chocolate are not a good choice. Pasta is not bad but use it in moderation and also use whole wheat pasta you will find out it taste great. When dieting and making meals first and foremost make sure at least 1/2 of your plate is veggies either raw or cooked. then make 1/4 of it meat and the other 1/4 of it starch.

Does this sound like a healthy diet? (Diet = food consumption, not weight loss method)?

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

During the school week:
-Half cup of black coffee after school
-2 pieces of celery and 2 cups of water for dinner

Weekends:
-Glass of water for breakfast
-1/4 cup skim milk for lunch (Can't drink more than that without getting sick)
-2 pieces of celery and 2 glasses of water for dinner

I'm 15, 5'3" and 120-ish lbs. Depends on the day.

If that is all you are eating, then that is not good.
