Going on a FAST for weight loss?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

I should probably consult with a doctor about this, but yahoo! answers hardly fails me, so…

I am 18 years old in college and 200 pounds and a guy who is 5′7", just FYI. I have been struggling with my weight for quite some time now. Last semester, I put a lot of hard work into it, and it certainly helped, but not enough. Then, over the holiday break, without good cooking options (long story), I was restricted to fast foods; furthermore, I couldn’t get to a gym. So I lost a lot of my work I had done. I know I need to persevere and work even harder, but I have started thinking about fasting in order to aid me with this process.

I’ve been told that fasting pretty much resets your metabolism, and weight loss becomes much easier to facilitate, especially with changes in appetite. I am seriously considering this sometime in the near future.

1. Has anyone ever fasted before?
2. Do you know anyone who’s fasted before?
3. How long should I fast in order to achieve desired results?
4. What should I supplement myself with? Obviously lots of water, but what kinds of juice or vitamins?
5. Should I exercise when I’m fasting?
6. Basically, how can I go about this in the most healthy and beneficial way?

And if you have any other pearls of wisdom or web links, please share them. Thanks!
Can I still drink green tea? I am addicted to caffeine, and I am unwilling to quit it. I have even quit caffeine before for about 3 months, but you can noticeably tell a difference, and with life the way it is, I need to be alert and energized.

No no no no dude don’t fast you’ve got it all wrong. Fasting gains weight. If you eat several healthy meals a day, it will be your best results. Fasting can be almost worse than eating junk food, depending how much you fast and how much junk you were eating before. You see, when the body senses you aren’t eating any food, it stores more fat than before, thinking you might starve and is just going into natural self preservation. Fasting is also not healthy for your body and caused malnutrition. So for weight loss just eat healthy foods and exercise often, dont’ be critical on yourself, stay with it, and be positive! Hope i helped and good luck.

10 days without food for weight loss?

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

i NEED to loose about 7-10 pounds in 10 days. what im gonna do is drink water and eat my vitamins for 10 days with out eating anything! how well can that work? will i lose my weight? PLEASE HELP!
im not obese and . im 5′4 and my weight is 132.

Be careful, because after about 3 days, you won’t feel hunger anymore. I’m not just saying that because I read it somewhere…been there…done that. Then a few more days and just the sight of food will repulse you and feel you with repugnance. Then after 10 days, when your mind is telling you to start eating again (liquid food), your body will be disgusted by the thought of it so you’ll have to get over that.

You will lose the weight but you will also end up with stretch marks on your skin for the rest of your life. Those are okay on the bottom side of your belly after you had a baby, like war scars that men are proud of. But when you fast, you lose weight so fast that your skin cannot adapt as fast, and you get ugly stretch marks on your butt, thighs and breasts.

Don’t bother with the vitamins.
Your body needs food to absorb vitamins.
Without food, your vitamins will just end up in your pee.

Pills like multivitamins and Omega 3 (+6 and 9), are good but they are only supplements to eat with food and do not replace food. There is a big difference between the way your body metabolizes pills and real food. I take fish oil too sometimes but that does not mean I don’t have to eat fish.
When vitamins are isolated and packaged into pills, they are poorly absorbed by the body and can even cause imbalances in body chemistry, and most of it ends up in your pee anyway, if it was ever there, in the pill, in the first place (tests always shows that vitamin pills very often to not contain what they’re supposed to contain…).

Make sure you don’t go farther than 10 days or you’ll end up with a slower metabolism so you won’t be able to eat as much as you used to, without gaining weight.

Edit:
A 110lbs woman could be considered obese (NWO Normal Weight Obese) if she has a body fat percentage of 30% or greater, even if her BMI is less than 25. Some people called skinny-fat, look skinny and do not weigh much, but one third of their body is made out of fat reserves and they’re very weak (lack of muscle mass), flabby, and the opposite of toned.
Skinny-fat people either eat junk or nothing at all. For them eating nothing is better than exercising.
Skinny-fat people are thin, yet do not eat healthy or take care of themselves. They think they don’t need to watch the junk they eat because they are thin. They can be more unhealthy then an overweight person which is why they are categorized as “obese” by the medical profession.
If a person can eat pizza, burgers, candy all day long and not gain weight, they would be considered skinny fat. They can still die from the same weight related diseases.
A skinny-fat person occurs as the result of bad genetics, poor eating/drinking habits, and complete avoidance of the gym.

Do’s and donts of a weight loss diet?

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Like what food to avoid eg bread, wheat. You know and what food that i should take, please no links i beg you,and make it a fast weight loss diet

Do-
Have lots of fruit and veg
Have 3 servings a day of wholegrain carbs to keep your energy up
Have 3 servings of lean protein for organ repair.
Drink lots of water to stop yu feeling hungry

Dont have many crisps, cake, chocolate, soda or biscuits
Don’t cut out carbs as this is dangerous and means you’ll gain the weight straight back
Don’t panic if you give in to temptation. Just get back on track the next day.
Most importantly, don’t give up. It will work if you stick with it.

weight loss food…i need a grocery list?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

are there anythings i can buy from wal-mart that will be cheap and help me shed off the lbs…..i have a few things in mind but i really want to stock my house with healthy food….can someone make me a grocery list! im 20 years old by the way….thanks for the help!

Here’s a pretty good list from bodybuilding.com for healthy fat-loss foods:

* Oatmeal (quick oats unflavored)
* Frozen chicken breast in a bag (you can buy these in bulk)
* Almonds (plain, unsalted)
* Eggs to boil (purchase several dozen at a time)
* Ground turkey (cheaper in bulk as well)
* Cottage cheese (or yogurt, low fat of course!)
* Frozen vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, green beans, etc.)
* Beef (if you can afford it)
* Brown rice
* Whole wheat pasta
* Whole grain breads (they do have protein bread now)
* Salad greens (lettuce, tomato, cucumber)
* Canned tuna (try to limit to 3 cans a week if possible)
* Fresh fruit that may be on sale
* Large can of protein powder
* A food scale until you get used to "eyeballing" your portions

Will anybody add onto my weight loss plan please?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I run a trail every other day and that’s pretty much it.
I’m 14 4′10 and 130 lbs.
I want to get down to 100 - 115.
What should I add?
Diet foods?
Other routines for toning, etc?
Thanks!

Do some resistance training (bodyweight or weightlifting) to speed up fat and volume loss (not necessarily weight though, but if you’re slimmer and leaner and stronger, who cares).

Don’t eat "diet food" - it only makes you fat. Eat lean proteins and vegetables, healthy fat (25-30% of your calories should come from fat, but be choosy about your fat!), and limit starches and fruit (it’s still sugar) and anything sugary/junky (once a week is OK).

Which Dry Dog Food is best for weight loss? …expert advice?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

My dog/Boxer is over weight by appx 30 lbs. and we are beginning a new plan for her. We are exercising more, however, I need to know… Which "Dry Dog Food for Weight Loss" is the best to buy? that actually works to help dogs.
And do I measure what the bag says on the back to what her weight is now? or what she needs to be?

Also, I was reading on the internet to feed your dog 2-3 small meals a day to help weight loss? Is that true??

If you have experience with this issue & have the answers, please, I need your advise on food, how much, and how offten.

She & I thank you very much ! :)
If you have to change her dog food then change it to something like Innova which is the HEALTHIEST pet food currently on the market thats gives something from all food groups and not a food such as beneful which is the unhealthiest pet foods on the market….if the dog dose not finish tje food you put down DO NOT leave it there take it back up where your dog cannot get to it if not your dog will come bak many times just because it is there…30mins after meals take your dog out for a walk……play with your dog more often take her swimming which is one of the best methods for dog exercise or teadmill walking which dogs acually like when it colder outside..make sure you do not give her unhealthy table foods with greases and fats follow those simple steps and do more research and you will see results within a month or less..$~Hope this helped~$

Does eating fast food affect weight loss if you are still eating less calories?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Here is what I am planning on eating tomorrow:

Breakfast- Quaker Oatmeal (140 cal)

Lunch- Campbell’s Select Harvest All Natural Tomato Basil Soup (200 cal) and a Caesar salad w/ no croutons or cheese(150 cal)

Snack at work- Luna Bar (180 cal) and an apple (100 cal)

Dinner: 2 soft shell beef tacos from Taco Bell (440 cal)

That’s 1210 calories for the whole day. Everything I’m planning on eating is healthy except for the tacos. But I can’t eat dinner until I’m off of work which is at 9pm, and I don’t want to have to make dinner.

Is it going to affect my weight loss if I eat Taco Bell tacos? Or is it okay since I’m still within my caloric limit (1200 calories)?

well the amount of calories your taking is is pretty low. ide say that as long as you dont do this that often it wont affect you. however if you did more research on nutrition (i find www.bodybuilding.com to have plenty of resources on dieting) you would find that calories arent as important as where they come from. for instance protein is usually good all round but some things also contain saturated fat (like beef - unless its lean) that also contain protein. saturated fat is not that healthy for you especially since you want to lose weight. Taco shells are more than likely not whole grains which means it contains simple carbs that digest and enter the bloodstream relatively fast and will store as body fat sooner unless the energy is used up (like from exercising right after or before).
Good fats on teh other hand (unsaturated fats excluding transfat) like that found in nuts peanut butter etc. digest slowly and are really healthy to eat especially when tryig to lose weight.
complex carbs like that found in wheat bread/whole grains/oats and even fruits have it is also very beneficial as it digests slowly keeping your body burning calories at an increased rate for longer.

I’m 5′2" (157cm), and i weigh 150 pounds (68). What is the best way for me to lose about 45 pounds (about 20kgs), being a vegetarian who eats indian food at home everyday??

If you are really looking for the best weight loss diet,
