I have slowly gained wait over the last 6 years. i went from 125 to over 150. i am very bad at diets, crave greasy fatty foods, and will start working out only to quit in a few weeks. I really want to get healthy, eat better, be active, and lose the weight. Please any help would be great.

i was the same way. a couple years ago i was 190 lbs and went down to 150 lbs in 8 months. you just have to tell yourself no. even when you dont want to, you HAVE to. i ate healthy everyday, but once a week allowed myself to eat anything i wanted. i went walking everyday, and 3 times a week i did taebo.

I lost 12 pounds last summer (in only 9 weeks!). Yes, it was really hard. I, like you, am very bad at diets, crave greasy foods, and can never keep to a workout regimen.

What I did was joined Weight Watchers. I thought it was only for old and obese people, but I was wrong. It was exactly what I needed. People there are very supportive, and they’ll keep you on track even when you can’t keep yourself on track.

If you don’t join Weight Watchers, you should pick some sort of program, even if you design it yourself. Deciding ahead of time on, for example, how many calories or how much fiber you’ll eat each day will help. Also, do it with a friend. You’ll support each other and hold each other accountable, so it’s harder to slip.

I used to think that I hated exercise, but I found out that’s not true either–I just hate running. You’ll need to experiment, but eventually you’ll find a form of exercise that’s at least tolerable, even if you don’t love it.

    Good luck!

I’ve lost over 100 lbs… and surprisingly I can say it wasn’t really that hard!

First you can’t look at it as "going on a diet." Being healthy doesn’t have a beginning and an end. You have to find a way to eat for the rest of your life. Lots of fruits and veggies, lean protein, and low-fat dairy. Grains, beans, pasta and potatoes in moderation.

If you have issues craving fatty foods it may be because you’re cutting out too much fat in your "diet." You need a certain amount of healthy fat for your body to function properly. If it helps, try taking flaxseed oil capsules. It helped me not crave fatty foods.

If you’re having trouble keeping a workout routine, is it because you’re burning yourself out or overdoing it? Typically it takes 2-3 weeks to form a habit. Once you start exercising regularly you’ll find yourself looking forward to doing it because of the happy-mood endorphines.

I have a forum for nutrition and weight loss, if you want more tips and info.

Here are 7 quick tips that can help you get back on the right track:

    1. Drink more than 8 glasses of water every day. Large quantities of water can raise your metabolism and help your body get rid of toxins.
    2. Use a smaller plate: using a smaller plate can make you think you are eating more food than you really are.
    3. Eat slowly: the slower you eat, the less food it takes to get full, because it can take up to 20 minutes for the body’s signal to reach the brain.
    4. Don’t skip breakfast: when you skip meals your body thinks it’s starving and slows down your metabolism.
    5. Tone your muscles with weight training: muscle mass helps your body burn more calories.
    6. Eat more eggs: a new study claims that eating eggs for breakfast can help you limit your daily calorie intake, by more than 400 calories.
    7. Use Color Therapy: believe it or not, the color blue can act as an appetite suppressant. So you can cover your table with blue tablecloth or serve dinner on blue plates.
